On the Magic of Polaroids

“Polaroid by its nature makes you frugal. You walk around with maybe two packs of film in your pocket. You have 20 shots, so each shot is a world.”

—Patti Smith

Beginning in 2018, I began experimenting with alternative processes on Polaroid film. These are examples of '“polaroid decay.” The process is a simple one: submerging the polaroid in water and letting them sit for days, weeks, or even months. I might add lemon juice, bleach, or inject inks into the print. The end result can be anything from an abstract to remnants of an image peeking through. This has been a great way to recycle flawed images.
